Services at Medpark Hearing Center
While we do fit patients with hearing aids, that’s only one small part of what we provide to keep your whole hearing system working smoothly. Partnering with Dr. Tomaneng’s ENT clinic allows us to offer a range of medical hearing services above and beyond what most hearing centers can provide. And we’ll never push anything on you; we treat every patient like a member of our family. You and your hearing are our priority, and we respect your decisions about your own hearing situation.
We cover everything from hearing loss prevention to hearing aid maintenance in one friendly and convenient location.
Diagnostic Services
- Audiological Exam: A test of how sensitive your hearing is at different frequencies, commonly known as a "tone test." When people think of a hearing test, this is often what comes to mind.
- Speech Discrimination Test: An examination that determines not how well you hear words but how well you understand them. If you have hearing loss but score well on a speech discrimination test, you are likely to experience better results from a hearing aid. Hearing aids will amplify sound, but they don't necessarily improve the way your brain processes what you hear.
- Otoacoustic Emissions Exam: An examination that determines inner ear health; this can be an early means of detecting hearing loss that other tests may not pick up on.
- Otolaryngological Exam: A full ENT examination not just of your ears but of your face, throat, nose, and neck. Every part of this system can affect your hearing, so it's important that we understand the whole picture.
- Otological Exam: A fundamental test that allows us to determine what kind of hearing loss you have, what has caused it, and what can be done to treat it. This is usually the first test we give if you come see us about hearing loss.
- Tympanogram: A test of how sound travels from the eardrum to the middle ear system by measuring air pressure within the ear.
Hearing Related Services
- Hearing Protection: The best way to treat hearing loss is to prevent it. We can make custom earplugs for people who are often exposed to loud noises, such as construction, factory work, or live music. We also work with musicians to create custom in-ear monitors.
- Hearing Aid Fitting: We'll only recommend hearing aids if we have determined that they would help you. We carry hearing aids from all major manufacturers, and we have the expertise to find the right hearing aid for you. Our recommendations are based on our understanding of your hearing loss, lifestyle, and preferences.
- Cerumen (Earwax) Removal: Keeping your ears clean and free of blockage can make a big difference in your hearing. Sometimes all you need to hear again is not a hearing aid but a simple removal of earwax accumulation. Even if you do wear hearing aids, you'll probably need your ears and your hearing aids cleaned of wax every so often. We are happy to take care of this so your ears are in the best shape they can be.
- Free Follow-Up Visits & Repairs: A full ENT examination not just of your ears but of your face, throat, nose, and neck. Every part of this system can affect your hearing, so it's important that we understand the whole picture. If we can repair your hearing aids ourselves (and we often can), we will do it for free.
Tinnitus Management
Tinnitus, commonly known as “ringing in the ears,” affects millions of Americans each year. At Medpark Hearing Center, we can diagnose your tinnitus and determine whether it is an effect of untreated hearing loss or if it is another medical condition, such as Ménière’s disease.
There are two types of tinnitus: permanent and temporary. We can perform a hearing test and determine what type of tinnitus you have, what has caused it, and we can treat your tinnitus through instrumentation. Because we are attached to an ENT clinic, we have the resources and knowledge to successfully help you experience relief from tinnitus.
